Information about Major Fannie McClendon
Major Fannie McClendon was a pioneering African American woman in the U.S. military. She served as an officer in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) and was one of the few Black women to attain the rank of major. McClendon played a significant role in breaking racial and gender barriers in the military, particularly during and after World War II. Following her military service, she remained an advocate for veterans and contributed to her community. Today she is 104 years young and resides in the state of Arizona. We are truly grateful for her service in the 6888th Battalion.
